One of the five persons arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of a 13-year-old boy at a Kumasi suburb of Abuakwa, has told police he slit the throat of Akwasi Opoku Yeboah because his mother owed him GH¢350 ($175), it has been reported.
The suspect, 23-year-old Akwasi Adjei Abraham claimed he carried out the cruel act after all efforts to retrieve the money from Felicity Opoku, who also came under the knife in the suspect’s frenzied attack, had failed.
I have doubts about this murder suspect’s claim, because I think a stronger motivation pushed him to the kill the young lad. I’m struggling to understand why he would go to extent of killing or even risking his life over just GH¢350. And I recommend that the police probe further to determine the underlying motive of the murder.Myjoyonline has the facts of the case
Adjei Abraham, Pastor James Akwasi Appau, 42, an uncle of the boy, 64-year-old Kofi Adjei, also an uncle of the boy’s late father, Pastor Johnson Opoku and two others were arrested after the March 11, 2013 incident in which the boy was killed, and his mother and sister Rita Opoku were left with severe machete wounds.Stunned by the grisly nature of the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police vowed to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.Barely 24 hours after that announcement, the police announced they had made some arrests.Tuesday, they paraded the suspects at a press conference to brief the media about the progress of their investigations.Whilst being whisked away from that press conference, an unapologetic Adjei Abraham, told journalists if they wanted to know why he killed the boy, they should go and read Mark 13:12, Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor reported. That verse of the Bible reads; “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.”
