Police arrest four over death of pregnant woman in Bauchi

Men of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested four suspects for alleged illegal procuring abortion for a 23-year-old pregnant lady.
The state Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed (DSP), in a press statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi on Thursday, said the lady died in the process of the abortion.
He said: “Yesterday,  we received a report that a female corpse was abandoned  along Guru village  Road off old Jos Road in Bauchi. The scene was visited by detectives led by DPO, GRA division.
“The victim was later identified by her father as Blessing Musa Abarshi, 23, of Gudum Sayawa, Bauchi. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim died as a result of complication arising from Illegal abortion.
“Four male suspects, Iliya Markus 21, Kefas Adamu, 22, and Ahmed D. Ahmed and Abdulrashid Bibi, both community health workers at Comprehensive Health Centre, Tashan Babiye have, so far, been arrested.
“The last two suspects admitted administering Eprostol 111 through her cervix to abort the four and months old pregnancy at the rate of N10,000.”
“The victim died at a house in Sabon Kaura and was dumped where the corpse was found,” he said, adding that further investigation was in progress
