The management of Neimeth International Pharmaceutical Plc has said it would provide a month-long free anti-hypertensive drugs for hypertensive patients who have been isolated as a result of the medical condition.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Emmanuel Ekunno, disclosed this in Benin, the Edo State capital, during the donation of drugs to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and the investiture of a former Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Austine Obasohan, as a health ambassador.
Ekunno, who said the free medication was part of efforts to check the prevalence of the health condition in Nigeria, explained that the firm was also working on a partnership with non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and government to make anti-hypertensive drugs available free of charge in the country.
He disclosed that only one-third of Nigerian adults were aware of the symptoms and treatment of the medical condition, adding that Neimeth was fighting hypertension through availability and affordability of drugs as well as awareness.
Ekunno said, “Neimeth, in its drive to ensure availability of anti-hypertensive medications to Nigerians at an affordable rate and eventually free, has agreed to give a one-month medication to isolated patients and, afterwards, give the drugs at a 50 percent discounted rate to individuals and offer the remaining 50 percent to be paid for either by a philanthropist, an NGO or the government.”
